Watseka/Iroquois County Tea Party Business Meeting
Secretary’s Report:
The meeting began with Chuck Garfield leading us in prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance. There was discussion on the upcoming election and member's concerns. The meeting ended with Barbara Offill (Coordinator) saying closing prayer and leading the group in "God Bless America." A total of 20 people attended. Our next meeting for October will be Saturday October 16th at Promises' Cafe at 11:30 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. The November 2nd election will be main topic along with the a discussion about the Iroquois County’s proposed .75% School Tax Hike and .25% Safety Tax Hike that will be on the ballot. The Tea Party will supply members with Voter’s Guides and a Sample Ballots for Iroquois County Voters.
Topics Addressed:
Topic 1: GOTV (Get out the Vote)
Discussion on volunteering time to walk door to door and encouraging people to vote on November 2nd. The TEA Party stated they have four certified deputy registrars that can come to voters homes and register if needed. Last date to register is October 5th.
The TEA Party handed out copies of the Illinois Family Institute's Voters Guide which includes candidate’s information and voting records.
Topic 2: “5,000 Year Leap” Book Club.
It was decided the members want a book club and the book “5,000 Year Leap” will be our first book which studies the Constitution in depth. The club will start in January. Dates and times have not yet been established. The book and sign up is $10.00 and it will be studied within a 13 month time frame.
Topic 3: GOTV (Get Out The Vote) October 30th Rally
It was decided by the members it was important for the TEA Party to host a rally right before the November 2nd election. The date will be Saturday October 30th, at the Masonic Lodge in Watseka at 1:00 p.m. Chuck Garfield made it possible for us to have it at the lodge. More details to come.
